I'm not sure if this is related, but in TightVNC Viewer version 1.2.9, I can only send an upper case "A" when I press the letter A on the keyboard. Pressing the right or left shift doesn't change the letter sent.
The only way that I'm able to and a lower case "a" is by typing left-alt 97 (97 being the acsii code for lower case a).
