There is no pidgin signal emitted for when people change their nick in a chat. I can check into emitting one ourselves and then creating a callback for that signal to hide nick name changes. But since there is no pidgin signal, I don't think I'll be putting this as a priority.

This bug is caused by the newer version of GTK+ 2.12.8 that is shipped with 2.4.0
Downgrading to the GTK+ version that was with pidgin 2.3.1 (GTK+ 2.12.1 Rev-B) alleviates this problem. See link from my below post to download the 2.12.1 RevB version.

Well since the problem was resolved with a different (newer) version of GTK+, my assumption would be that there may be a bug with the newer 2.12.8 version of GTK+ and not with Extended Prefs.
Regardless, I'll check into GTK+ and see if there have been any bugs reported about the function call that is used to hide the Buddy List window.
