We have found a bit of a fix which seems to work - although all needs tuning since image quality is crap with liquid scaling at intermediate sizes
what I did was turn up the sizes somewhere down the line in one of the gallery xlm files (must have worked since lightroom made the larger sized jpegs 2k wide)
