VC++ 2008 compiles in debug but not release

I'm using the latest version of wxPack (2.8.9.02). I wrote a simple app using the VC wizard. I started with an empty project and made the app from scratch. I don't have any problem at all compiling and running it in debug mode, but when I switch to release mode, it errors out. It says the rc file does not exist. I never made an rc file, so it must have been generated by the wizard...
