Please try to comment out the memset in VIAScreenInit in via_driver.c and run the XServer with -logverbose 7, and then please attach the next log.
Thanks,

Oh please.
This was fixed one day before the release was made. It was
specifically held back until the next release.
Git master from December 31th 2005 had this already. 10.5
months ago.
I can't believe you filed a bug for this.

If i am not mistaking, you were on irc as dez yesterday.
The chance of you using this driver here is extremely small.
You are undoubtedly using the X.org driver. File a bug there.
Please also try to reduce your signal-to-noise ratio
considerably.

Please provide logs with -logverbose 8 (startx --
-logverbose 8 will do it).
Please then provide a log of a failing X.

CRT is ok on the FX43G. And a comparison of registers
between the current code and release-0_2_5 doesn't produce
anything that can cause problems in this case.
Can you provide me with more information about what you are
seeing when you provide PanelSize. If the panel isn't
initialised properly, you can't even see the cursor. Are you
certain that you aren't...

What makes my code fail to recognise the panelsize on your
laptop is that the scratch value isn't set properly.
Formerly, if the driver saw "640x480" set in the scratch
area (it is 0, the same as a missing/unset value), it would
override it and go for 1024x768. My recent changes removed
that hard default, as 640x480 could be an actual but
unlikely value.
