Great, thanks a lot for the detailed steps! I now was able to reproduce and locate the problem. It's definitely an issue within the .NET framework (the SendKeys.Flush method is waiting for an internal non-empty queue being empty, however the queue is never processed, resulting in an infinite loop). Fortunately I found a workaround!
You can find the latest 2.x development snapshot for testing...

See the FAQ, "Why doesn't KeePass lock when Windows locks and a KeePass sub-dialog is open?":

Impressive plugin, thanks a lot!
I've added it to the KeePass plugins page:
http://keepass.info/plugins.html
I've also added the bug to my to-do list. The key file mechanism in my opinion is fine as it is.
Best regards
Dominik.

For security reasons I'm not even shipping my actual encrypted keys. The PFX files contained in the KeePass source code package are dummy PFX files, which can be decrypted using the password "123123". For more information, see the file "ReadMe_PFX.txt" in the root directory of the KeePass source code package.

I can't reproduce this. KeePass does show the error message (telling the user that the placeholder isn't a valid keyword), however the global hot key continues to work fine and KeePass terminates correctly.
I'd recommend to upgrade to the latest .NET framework 3.5 SP1.
Best regards
Dominik.

1. For importing KeePass 1.x KDB files, KeePass 2.x uses a library called KeePassLibC, which contains the core code of KeePass 1.x. Just like KeePass 1.x, this library therefore only runs on Windows systems.
As you were using KeePass 1.x previously, I assume that you've got a Windows system. On the Windows system, create a new KDBX file using KeePass 2.x, import your old KDB file and save the...
