Auto-type is a lot more powerful than the system tray approach, but if you want to have such a menu-like approach anyway, have a look at the Floating Panel plugin: http://keepass.info/plugins.html#kpfloatingpanel

For security reasons, the random key that is used when encrypting the master key in a loop is regenerated each time you save (like an initialization vector).

I've now added a "Change Master Key" policy (this was a missing feature, not a hole).

Very interesting, thanks a lot for the hint, Theo! I now was able to locate a window activation call that was added in 2.09 and was the cause of the issue. The window apparently doesn't like to be activated while it's still in the untraying phase. After removing this call, it works fine on my machine.
