I've tried fulltext search with 0.4.51. I have some problems and remarks :
* it is quite slow on my phone (C902), you may wait 20-30 sec with a quite big map (the paris region for nearly a 4000 km² area (and when searching with 4 characters))
* I have a bug : my avenue isn't found with it, although I can find it in the normal search by typing the full name.

The device works like a charm.
The fulltextsearch is quite long to look for something. But otherwise, it is OK :)
GpsMid 0.4.51 with custome french map (not hexagone since it is broken)

I agree totally with the XX YY ZZ index, I think my first idea to look into fulltext search wasn't that good.
You may not remember the type of street, but you may remember the name of the street, even the beginning.
And if you've forgotten if there is a "h" before or not, it can't be helped :p
For me, I doesn't care if the index size is that much bigger... Whenever it doesn't grow ten time...

I tried to understand and hack the search engine, but it is too complicated for me to work on right now.
I wanted to add some feature not to search only the beginning.
So if I "type" rue rivoli, it should display :
rue de rivoli
ruelle parivolite
rue rivoli
if they exists. But of course, not some funky results like rivolieruelle.
So each space-separated word typed will look...

I agree the text should be rotated, right now, it's better than nothing, but it's quite unreadable ;)
If it could be done, it'd be great !
