Time format should be changed according to VO settings when got directly from EXIST using XSLT. Now can be converted only when showing fields through Java.
Also permit user have its own time format and timezone as personal settings.

External search is used not only from data sources. It will be hard to find it inside a section. Also page with catalogue is common for all sections, there is no easy way to add something there different for one section.

Total number of items can be only refreshed from admin page, inventory button. It doen't update on every user's page refresh because of possible performance problems. Total column value should be considered as approximate estimate of documents number.
