The original StratoScript language was intentionally as simple as possible in order to be understandable and accessible to non-programmers. And as you say many have used it to quite impressive results including half hour animated planetarium shows.
Even with the addition of a more conventional scripting language, there is still a great need for this simpler option.

I suspect the issue is a time zone difference. The other programs may be using UTC for the time zone when off the Earth. Try setting the time to your local equivalent of 2am UTC and see what you get.

I believe these are all known issues.
Version 0.10 is a Beta version, meaning that it is not intended for mission critical applications like running a planetarium.
Your best option is to revert to the previous version you were using.
