Because versions later than 0.9.x and 1.0-RCx also exhibit
this problem, I'm now blocking any and all Liferea
useragents entirely at the firewall. Problem solved.

I can confirm that llando's assumptions below are completely
incorrect. Based on my own logs, Liferea 1.0.4, 1.0.12,
1.0.15, 1.0.16, 1.0-RC4 and others ARE INDEED violating the
spec by ignoring the headers that the OP posted about.
To that end, here are my logs that indicate the problem:

pilot-link has been moved off of SourceForge, due to a serious management conflict here and lack of support from the network here in general, as well as their ignorance of my repeated emails regarding the deletion of this project.
