If I'm in a place near, but not on, the bit where the under-track rescue occurs, then it is a rough rescue, but it's not that sensitive to exact location for me - the starting position for a single-kart race is a rough rescue, whereas anywhere much closer to the arch than that goes under the track.
(Since it might make a difference, this is compiled and run on an amd64 Lenny Debian system...

Rescuing on the star track sometimes places the kart inside the track - it seems to depend on where the rescue takes place.
