Jon,
Could you please specify where you entered the CMD sequence? Did you enter this in URL field? That is not correct, you need to enter this in the URL override field (which is in a different tab of the edit entry dialog).
Since I don't have Thunderbird let's use Yahoo Messenger 9 as an example.
I put the following into the URL field

In order to open applications (like yahoo messenger, or web pages with popup dialog to enter the password), you could try KeeRun. It comes with the KeeForm installation package. Please see more details in the help file.

Hi Dinis,
I think there are important reasons to use KeePass:
1. Firefox encryption is not really strong.
2. KeePass is much smaller than Firefox (in case you use IE or other applications).
3. There are quite a few useful plugins for KeePass
4. Auto-Typing for non browser applications
and so on
But don't use it to protect from key loggers :-)

I believe all these methods (including virtual keyboards, clipboard encrypters, KeeForm, and so on) are not secure at all .
Pretty much all key-loggers do not only record keystrokes, but also "scan" applications/browsers for "password fields" ("password control spies").
