Reading again the post, I realize that I have not answered your question.
You started by observing that there is a list of internal plguins. One of these internal plugins is the following one, represented in the following files:
- AutomaticLayout.java
- AutomaticLayout.xml
The plugin implements the function of automatic layout, which you can find somewhere in the menu. Searching the...

Ander, I have updated
http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Plugins
Does the page help you to find out how to actually use plugins? --Dan.

This topic is dealt with in the wiki:
http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Hyperlinks
The section
http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Hyperlinks#Tracker_items
has a link to a patch that deals with opening of hyperlinks containing custom protocols such as the one for Lotus Notes.

I have written
http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Data_recovery
to help on this group of problems. The guide is very sketchy, though.

I am using a personal version of FreeMind that is developed from 0.7.1. codebase...

AFAIK there is no way to assign keyboard shortcuts to exports to various OpenOffice formats.
A clarification: These exports are implemented using XSLT transformation sheets, not using plugins.
I have created
http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Export_using_XSLT
and stated there the impossibility to assign a keyboard shortcut as a limitation.

I don't know if I can help, but what is the operating system of the laptop? What is the Java version?
Either you find a way to get Insert working, or, as a workaround, you can set the keyboard shortcut for inserting a new child node to some other key combination. You can customize the keyboard shortcuts in Tools > Preferences.

I have corrected the hyperlink in wiki to point to the correct page of the service:
http://www.liberatedcomputing.net/mm2fm
Thanks for the heads up. The page of the service says that the service is currently unavailable, yet it also seems that it has been working at some point.
The page says: "Sorry, the online service is down at the moment. You can download the script using the...
