That's a known problem. It turns out to be a GtkFileChooser bug:

I'll keep this bug open until the GTK+ bug is resolved.

It's been a long time since I last worked on regexxer, but
if I remember correctly I have already implemented command
line parameters in cvs HEAD. Could you check that out and
report whether that's what you had in mind, provided it's
indeed there? Thanks.

I'm happy to announce that after a one-year break I returned on stage and started coding on regexxer again. The next months will hopefully see some of the feature requests resolved. I especially like the idea of a regular expression wizard that functions as kind of a tutorial along the way. This has actually been a long-term goal of regexxer right from the beginning.
So I wish happy regexxing...
