For the sake of other dummies here is what I did to produce the output wanted:
In Windows run
C:/Programme/Ext2Fsd/debugfs /dev/hdb4
for partition 4 of fixed disk, it had to be hdbx instead of hdax, as on my machine removable drives get inserted _before_ the hard disk ( somewhat confusing )
After that achieved I then issued
dump / c:\hdb4_root_entries.dmp
dump /home...

I have a similar problem, using ext2fsd 0.46 pre3 Mar 9 2008 and Ext2Mgr 2.1 Feb 19 2008 with Windows XP Professional.
Initially everything worked fine, a few days ago I upgraded to a larger hard disk ( 250 GB ) and now wanted to make more of the system in terms of using multiple OS's.
I had ( working ) 80GB partitioned to 30.200,3 MB Windows XP NTFS, 30.200,3 MB Windows XP NTFS, 4 MB...

No, I didn't,
but somehow I (now) think the reason is probably a rather oldish version of syslinux provided by openSuSE, I already asked them to update it.
As I mentioned above, extlinux seems the better choice anyway. If you include it on the .iso ( together with parted and mke2fs ) then it could be used from within Clonezilla. Maybe even added to the menu ?
For the "faint of...

I did find a way to circumvent it: Instead of syslinux I am using extlinux now. This also seems more forgiving towards weird USB sticks. I can now boot from a stick with 2048 byte sectors, which I was never able to get to boot with the FAT boot sector.
The procedure is not much different:

I did not expressly mention it, but I followed your advice under Clonezilla live closely:
Format usb stick with FAT, extract clonezilla-live-1.0.9-1.zip into it, run syslinux -s /dev/sdc1, then boot.

Hallo Steven,
somehow I am not able to get Clonezilla to do more than display the menu then counting down from 30 to 0 and repeating all over.
I managed to get the boot local to work by changing syslinux.cfg
kernel chain.c32
append hd0
to
kernel chain.c32
append hd1
but the the boot menu of that disk fails, because it is configured to be hd0, while with the usb stick inserted...

The given link does not work by clicking, as the forum software included the comma in the link. Here it is clean:

Hello again, Steven,
I prepared a little script to download the iso image, mount it as filesystem and copy the contents to a r/w location. There any part of the Live-CD can be modified, then made into a new iso image to burn to CD
It is located at http://www.freewebs.com/casualprogrammer/Downloads/editCZCD, feel free to peruse it and make changes. If you think it's helpful, you may want to...

Hello Steven,
wouldn't it be easiest to add this as a choice to the menu ?
Casual.

Actually I found that my assumption "bogofilter simply ignores them" is only half the truth.
After digging and googling for more possible solutions, I found that apart from installing and enabling the plugin you have to choose it expressly as your filter of choice in Edit/Preferences/Junk. From then on it seems to work as expected.
