Will it require some sort of java application server like jboss to run this new version?.

Well, it's good to know you haven't given up on it! Hopefully we see something soon :)

OK, I setup phpchess. It has WAY more advanced features as far as administration goes. However, the interface is much more complicated, and the gameplay isn't as smooth (no drag-n-drop, and it doesn't auto-update as quickly). So for now, I'll stick with MKGI for my kids at the chess club. However, if phpchess keeps improving, and MKGI remains stagnant, I'm not sure how long that will hold...

I think I might check out phpchess....http://www.phpchess.com/index.html It looks like it might have many of the features for which we're looking... It looks as if it's always had a free edition, but their newest blog entry says they're going to be releasing the new version completely free under the gpl.... I'll have to stack it up against this over the summer for the new year of chess club...

Looking at the Subversion Activity Statistics, it doesn't look like anything has been done on this project since November, so if there are any good php coders out there willing to take up the mantle, maybe you can contact alcibiadefr, and offer your assistance. :)

Post your code up for the rest of us, if you would... I'm not sure how much alcibiadefr has been working on this lately... development seems to have died off... Unfortunately my php skills aren't as strong as I'd like, b/c I'd really like to see development on this continue....

Looks like a database issue to me... Did you properly setup your databases, and put credentials for it into the chessclub config file?.
