This sounds really exciting. We're interested in this too. We want to develop an app that functions as a shared inbox and let's us associate incoming emails to specific orders in opentaps. The app would look for emails coming to a specific address and then any user could respond and link the email to an order too.
I wonder if it'd be better to base this app on your GWT email module rather...

I noticed your wrote about a new logo for opentaps. Have you ever considered trying 99 Designs? They let you crowd source design work. I used it before and it worked out really well. It was a lot of fun too.

UserVoice seems the most popular system by far. They have a free and discounted version for open source projects.
Ideascale is newer, but they seem to offer better tools for collaboratively writing feature requests...

On a related note... we just did a simple integration between Google Sites and opentaps.
We generate pages in Google Sites for Accounts and Suppliers in opentaps. An account can have multiple pages in Google Sites linked to it. I agree with Mark. I'm not really sure what portals achieve period. Maybe for a really large enterprise they're interesting, but for a small company what would the business value be?
I tend to think I'm quite passionate about using technology in my organization, but you gotta think, how much better would your operation run if you could integrate opentaps into a portal like JBoss or...
