These errors come from the fact that thetvdb.com is sometimes down. I need to make the error more clear. In TOT I just added the ability to turn off auto-search. Not quite ready for prime time yet, but getting close. I will hopefully get out a release soon...

Yeah, unfortunately, it probably searched thetvdb.com and found a show that matched the filename and automatically inserted those values. For the next release I plan on doing two things. First, I will make searching for metadata opt-in. There will be buttons on the metadata panel to search for metadata in the current file or in all files. ok, great. Can you try something else, then? Try encoding a movie with all the same settings, but at a lower bitrate (turn down the quality slider).

Well, it's encoded at 1.5Mbps, which is right at the limit of the device. But everything else looks fine. It's too bad your old unit died. It would be useful to track down the actual problem.

Sorry, I'm still not sure what you're asking. Yes, the MPlayer site (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/) shows many format options, but that is not very helpful for understanding the needs of particular devices.
