You are correct. I'm using ArchLinux with the current kernel, which is 2.6.30-5 (the last number specifies how many times the package was rebuilt) with some Arch patches applied.
Attached is the strace output for the command, which is even more lenghty... But well, strace output gets lenghty. ;)

Hello,
after the last successful print job using our Epson D88, the printer told me, that the yellow cartridge is emtpy. After replacing it with a new one, the cartridge slot moves along and stops at every cartridge position when the colour button is pressed. To sum it up, the printer thinks all cartridges are empty.
I used escputil to show the current ink level, but the whole output seems...
