When I installed News-Maniac the installer showed text, however after installation none of the menu text or interface text was being show.
I found that the array of text for the interface was not 'clean' each element of the array had a carriage return or line feed in both the key and value.
I solved this by adding the following two lines to include/class.db.php after line 115...
