When downloading any large file over a sustained period at any rate greater than ~40KB/sec, latency on the link (tested to the access point) skyrockets - shooting from 1-2 ms up to 300-1000ms, with short spikes up to 4000ms. the machine is not cpu bound during this period. as soon as the large transfer completes, latency drops back to normal. other machines on the same wireless network do not...
