  • Look familiar?

http://www.imblaze.com/ An obvious gaim ripoff, featuring the look of gaim, the protocols of gaim, and a new feature - "a small non-obtrusive {sic} ad [that] will roll up into the window as all of your messages do." I do not believe that the source code of this scam/spyware/whatever has been released - in fact, I'm relatively sure of it. Their support forum even admits that it is...

  • [img] tags return invalid XHTML

When using an [img] tag, the page does not validate as XHTML. Four errors turned up. The height, width, and border attributes had no quotes, so created an error. Also, the IMG was not closed. http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fnextphaze.net%2Findex.php%3Fentry%3Dentry051214-232555&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline.

Logged In: YES user_id=1338911 I don't know if this project is still active (this was, after all, suggested over two years ago), or if this is indeed where I should focus my attention. I recently switched to Linux (Ubuntu) from M$, and although I am quite pleased, I was surprised to see that .7z was not supported by file roller. Being an open format with an excellent compression ratio, I...

  • Followup: RE: 7z423.exe is not a valid Win32 Applicatio

Your problem is that, somehow, your download was interrupted or corrupted. Do you have any programs running that could interfere with program downloads? Is your Internet connection stable? Are you using a download manager? All of these things could potentially be causing your problem.

  • Followup: RE: WinZip 10

Ah. Quite right, quite right. I was able to BROWSE the archives OK using both 7-zip and WinRar, and assumed (incorrectly) that they also extracted OK. They don't.

Back to formats, it seems that WinZip's "new" formats are ALREADY supported. Which really shouldn't be much of a surprise, when you come to think of it.

Both bzip2 and PPMd (WinZip's "new" formats) are built on open source technology, it seems. bzip2 is under BSD license, but I don't know about PPMd. In fact, it is entirely possible that the use of PPMd in WinZip is a violation of a Free Software license, but I can't say anything for sure. PPMd: http://www.cbloom.com/src/ppmz.html OR: http://packages.debian.org/unstable/utils/ppmd.

  • Followup: RE: WinZip 10

WinZip 10 is a revolution in the way WinZip developers are handling their product. First of all, note that purchasing a license for winzip no longer guarantees you a liscense for later versions, unless you chuck out extra cash in advance. Even then, it only assures you of upgrades for a time-delimitted period. If a person bought a license in the past (poor fools!), they may be expected to...

  • Followup: RE: 7-zip wins award for Best OpenSource Arch

The site rated Winrar as the best archiver overall. TUGzip was rated as the best freeware archiver, and 7-zip was rated as the best open source archiver. http://www.donationcoder.com/Reviews/Archive/ArchiveTools/index.html#other.
