hehe, Alpha processors and ultrasparcs have been 64 bit for a long time...and no great leap forward ever appeared. The process of overhauling 32 bit code for 64 bit engines is non-trival and will only occur over time (with volunteers, i.e years) or some pressing business need (real or imagined) throwing money at the process....don't hold your breath.

In "Genetic Programming" 1990, Koza demonstrates some really slick code for solving hard problems. Lisp is a great language to implement the Kozas paradigm, since you can access the lisp parse tree simply (thus data <==> code).
But lush isn't totally lisp (based on what I've read so far), garbage collection is absent (which could be a big problem, as GP programs generate tons...

Is not CL-SQL sufficient? I sure hope that it is that easy. If not, the MySQL C API will do.

For a 30 minute auto update rate, Pears doesn't do anything in a
Gentoo system. Is there some auxilary program ('at' perhaps)
needed?.

I have a real-time pattern matching problem, so when I heard that the Beasties came with support for stop/start (and hopefully store/load from mysql), I dropped activity on OPEAL and grabbed it.
I do fuzzy matches against bit streams ( fuzzy == . ) and my fitness functions are bigger than the rest of the code.
Hopefully, this project has not died from low interest levels.

I had a spew of warnings and a couple errors when installing Data::ShowTables just now, but make test claimed that it worked. Just finished installing Beasties (number 3 on the 'try this GA to see if it will work' list).

I like it. The varity keeps people from just making coins, I remember how the local game hackers had macros setup just to make money overnight. It is an interesting money system, incorporating the suggustion about a fluctuating currenty [hey, have a market for currency to determine value, aka forex] would be sweet.

Oh, sorry didn't know that a new version was available until just now, my problems were with the prior release (they were only minor in any case). Trying the new version now.
Time and price tracking are sufficient, my other bidding methods will work fine with that information available.
Ebay's long term intention is to eliminate programs such as jBidwatcher (they want their own product...
