I totally agree with you in general. I've also been thinking about adapting a mechanism from GEclipse that provides a number of possible solutions whenever an error is reported. The problem with improving error reporting is not that it is difficult, it is just a LOT of work, since it is a very cross-cutting concern. Another problem right now is that sometimes I just don't get proper error...
