The fact that you can't move a footprint when the silk layer isn't visible leads me to want some other way to just get reference designators out of the way when shoving small footprints around on a densely packed board. The display is just too busy when the components are tiny! It would be really nice to have just the footprint copper and rats visible while placing parts. So, a way to move...
