Now install-lib target fails, because install-sh does not have 'executable' file mode bit. When set manually using chmod +x, it works fine.

It works when the variables INSTALL_PROGRAM and INSTALL_DATA and PREFIX in the Makefile are set up.

I think the library file should be named libasap.a and xmms plugin should contain xmms
inside the name e.g. libasap-xmms.so, so the purpose of the file will be clear.
I see one advantage of pkg-config - users compiling programs that depend on asap would have their lives easier - they won't care about where the library is installed. Autotools and cmake support pkg-config, so probing for the...

Versions 2.0.5 and 2.0.6 tested on 64-bit system (opensuse 11.1). No difference between 32-bit and 64-bit found.

Can you add install-lib makefile target that will install the library and header file into appropriate locations (PREFIX/lib,PREFIX/include) ?
Of course, this can be accomplished manually using cp but that is not very convenient way especially for end users.
Can you consider supporting pkg-config in the next release ?.
