when I run
$> cd
$> gphoto2 --force-overwrite --capture-image -p 2 --filename=/tmp/foo.jpg
gphoto2 fails. Note that my $HOME is on a different filesystem than /tmp, so the your call to rename fails:
rename: Invalid cross-device link
I used the following versions:
gphoto2 2.4.5.2 gcc, popt(m), exif, cdk, no aa, jpeg, readline
libgphoto2 2.4.6.5...
