  • Comment: Almost-crash on Vista (!) on restart after quitting

The program politely closes after File->Quit with no crash at all. For sure the crash is due to the way the program was closed during the first instance, but nothing before the restart lets the user prefigure what will happen next. It took me a while to understand that this is likely the source of a few scattered "almost-crashes" that i was seeing sporadically on ChessX.

  • Almost-crash on Vista (!) on restart after quitting

To reproduce the bug: While a database is loading (opening bar going on), choose File->Quit. At following restart, just wait a few seconds without doing anything. The classical Windows Vista error window appears, saying (my translation): "chessx.exe stopped working / Windows: a search is going on to solve the problem"; seconds later, the same window says that no solution is found. However...

  • Crash on File->Close (or Quit) with OpeningTree updating

To reproduce the bug, choose File->Close or File->Quit while OpeningTree is updating (progress bar going on). My Windows Vista system crashes.

  • Add-move window should not cover the Board

It is annoying that the Add-move window ("There is already next move in current game. What do you want to do?"), which appears at the center of ChessX main window, many times happens to partly cover the Board. Is there anything that can be done to change it? Also, it would be nice if the new move is already shown as played on the Board, as already requested somewhere else.

  • remove Tip of the day

IMHO Tip-of-the-day is not very useful and sadly out of fashion. I would remove it.

  • Clickable moves on the Analysis window

It would be a wonderful feature to have clickable moves on the Analysis window. For instance, if the engine is suggesting 16. Be3 Bf6 17. g3 Na5 18. Nd2, clicking on 18. Nd2 the whole sequence up to that move should be played on the board.

  • Comment: Splash screen

ChessX is very fast at startup, thus IMHO a splash screen might look just as a out-of-fashion feature. I would suggest to drop this idea.

  • Comment: loading, progres bar

Progress bar is now implemented in SVN.

  • Comment: Remove->Previous moves should be smarter

Now is back as in the original report. Not very smart, yet... ;)

  • Comment: Promote to mainline goes crazy if not applied to first move

Yes, the bug in itself is solved. You can close the bug report, provided that "mainline" is really intended as "upper variation" (which is not necessarily mainline).
