AFAIK, I'm one of the scarce Areca experts (which is unfortunate, I admit), and I have no time to handle your request right now (may I recall that Areca is developped during my own free time ?)
After each Backup, Areca checks (which means "actually recovers the archive and check that the recovered files match the original ones") the new archive (and destroys it if corrupted), so...

All you have to do is :
1) Move your entire backup directory (which is named after your target's UID) on your new drive
2) update your target's configuration to set the new backup location (you can do this with Areca's user interface or by editing directly your XML configuration file)
Be careful with your backup subdirectories : their names must not be modified ... otherwise, Areca...

Areca doesn't use the windows' registry

This is weird, indeed ...
Areca performs a backup in 3 steps by default :
1) Checks whether there is something to store -> very quick
2) Perform backup
3) Checks that the archive can be recovered and that recovered data match the original ones
Steps 2 and 3 can be quite long.
When you say that the backup took 1h43, do you mean step 2 or steps 2 and 3 ? (you can check that...
