I can see this happening with the install of the ipod & iphone drivers that affect the usb hub without those devices attached. It would be better to install Itunes first followed by lib usb after those usb changes have been made. I cannot verify this issue with the current version of itunes in xp as i don't have xp installed. but if needed i can check.

please change the compatability mode to windows 2000 before installing to prevent disabling usb devices.
also if you recieve a bsod on shutdown you may follow the steps on this page concerning the issue to remove it. http://www.davieslim.com/ps3/use-ps3-controller-in-windows-wireless-bluetooth/.
