Open Prefs > Keyboard and assign whatever keys you
like to Next Higher State and Next Lower State. Let me
know if there any problems.

Good suggestion. I'll add two new items to the Action menu in
Prefs > Keyboard: Next Higher State and Next Lower State
so you can move in either direction. Both will cycle to the
opposite end if at max/min state. How does that sound?
Let me know which platform you use and I'll upload a build
for you to try out.
