  • Followup: RE: DBaN and bad sectors

I'm not 100% positive, but I was told that DBAN attempts to clear to every sector and if it cannot, it fails. While it doesn't report specific bad sectors, a fail dban clear or purge would indicate that the disk should be destroyed.

  • Followup: RE: DBAN and Intel-based Macs?

I was unable to get dban-beta.2007042900_i386 to work on a MacBook Pro or an Intel Mac mini. It seemed to boot the MBP and erase the drives, but the drives were not erased. The disk would not even boot in the Mac mini. :-( Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the work. Just to be clear, the first two passes use random number and the last pass is known pattern, right? I don't know how to get apple to talk about merging branches. The man page on a Mac refers to http://sourceforge.net/project/?group_id=3297 but I don't know if Apple even knows that.

sorry about the anonymous posting at 7:15; I forgot to log in. One more questions, is this project the code base that Apple uses for srm in the Mac OS X? My goal is to get the three pass wipe into the Apple product eventually, but I figured I would start at the code base.

  • 3 pass wipe...

Hello, We in the DOE (Dept. of Energy) need a three pass wipe when deleting a file. The wipe pattern needs to be random, random, known pattern. Is there any chance of adding a DOE compliant wipe scheme? Thanks, Allan.

  • Docs?

Hello, Are there detailed docs on srm? Specifically I need to know how many passes the program uses to wipe a file, and the scheme used. For example, is it a 3 pass wipe with a random pattern, a random pattern, then a known pattern? Any help is appreciated. -Allan.
