This 'workaround' is equivalent of people having to get out of their car and walk alongside the car for some parts of the highway, because the highway owners want people to look at their ads longer. What Curse does is unacceptable and should not be tolerated or supported in any way.

I am aware of this problem. I have been preparing a bugfix version for some time fixing this bug and segmenting backups into <4Gb chunks to help people that backup to FAT32 filesystems. The backup part is working, but I still have not put enough free time together to get the restore tools working with the slightly changed backup format.

Since Curse does not allow automatic downloads of addon files, it is no longer a reasonable source for packages. Therefore, it should be fully removed from the interface and from the online DB that is used to link packages to source sites. Where possible, alternate sources should be used.

So, what is actually up with downloading addons from Curse? What are they saying? Will they not allow WUU to download addons as well?
Would it not be appropriate to steer people away from Curse then? Like remove Curse from the list of known sites and point people to other sites where the same addons can be found. THat would be the most reasonabe approach, IMO.
