I've recently upgraded to this build in order to test out TimeMachine compatibility and noticed that no zeroconf announcements are comming out of my FreeNAS box.
There is nothing in the logs about mdnsresnponder that i can see so my only suspicion is that it never starts. I tried disabling/enable the zeroconf box and rebooting the machine but no no avail. There is no trace of mdnsresonder...

Hi Arne,
I was under the impression that your request meant that this would make TimeMachine work, which it won't. Yes, it iwll make the FreeNAS volume appear as a valid TimeMachine volume but what's the point ? I can manually create that file on the volume and achieve the same thing..
We still need a special version of FreeNAS with Netatalk 2.1 CVS to test out whether TimeMachine will...

Hi Volker, i can confirm that this will NOT work. The current version of Netatalk that you are using in FreeNAS does not support FPSyncFork() command needed by TimeMachine so even if you fool OS X into thinking that this is a valid TM backup destination, the backup operation will still fail.
As i mentioned in my previous TimeMachine implementation request, it is needed that you compile the HEAD...

No, Netatalk 2.0.4 does NOT include FPSyncFork or FPSyncDir functions needed for TimeMachine. I remember Volker adding FPSyncDir patch to Netatalk 2.0.3 but i don't know if he kept it when he upgraded Netatatlk to 2.0.4. That being said, having the FPSyncDir patch is not enough. Since it's not mentioned, i would like to add Time Machine support. This means full implementation of FPSyncDir and FPSyncFork commands.

Hmm, i just upgraded from .69 to .69.1 embedded and it went ok. The system rebooted up and all the config was intact. Maybe this was fixed in on of the revisions following .69... Can anyone else confirm if they're still seeing this problem ?

You're right, the beta from last December does not include the changes in question. They only added support for FPSyncFork a few days ago but it is needed in order to finally get TimeMachine backups to work on FreeNAS. I'll keep an eye on the Netatalk mailing list to see when the next beta will come out as hopefully it will include these latest changes. It would be awesome however if...
