I think you could get away with that. Someone else I talked to had a similar idea, and wondered if darcs should provide a directory explicitly for such things, but I suspect it'd be okay even without that feature.

The attached file causes the "assert type(s) is str #
*not* unicode!" assertion to fail in
PythonSourceColorizer.handle_line. Heck if I know why
though.-.

There's a limitation in the current implementation of
contrib/darcs_buildbot.py, which is
out = commands.getoutput("darcs changes --last=1
--xml-output --summary")
darcs's apply hook gets called once per invocation of
"darcs apply", but *many* changes may happen in that
invocation.
Solutions for this involve fixing darcs so it provides
sufficient information to the apply hook...
