Claimed to have been corrected in the MediaWiki code (might not yet be life on Wikipedia, but will be soon)

This seems to be a problem not with the bug code, but with the Mediawiki API. I have submitted a bug report at https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16225 which, when resolved, should correct this issue.

The bot already includes such links only if the operator says yes to them. That some operators prefer to include the best links rather than adhere to your dogmatism, is our (because I'm one of them) fault, not that of the bot.

It has to do with the zh-traditional/zh-simplified distinction. In normal MediaWiki usage, both the simplified and the traditional orthography of Chinese work, but the bot uses [[Special:Export]], which only works for simplified Chinese.
If you change the link from [[zh:倩女离魂]] to [[zh:倩女離魂]], you still go to the same page, but the link will work for the bot as well.

Direct quotes of the reactions:
"The User Interface is designed for users. The python Wikipedia
framework, therefore, should use the API, and then it won't have these
problems."
"The API has existed for awhile, and the UI should not be depended on for
any automated things."
In other words, they regard it as our own fault for not using the API.
