Please provide the output from:

cvs -t commit -m "some message"

A tip that may be relevant:

In order to perform a commit, you must be working against a
CVS working copy that has been /checked out/ using SSH
authentication -- if you used pserver auth for your
checkout, you must checkout a fresh working copy (you can
move modified files over from the old working copy to the
new, then commit).
