can't get to dos - ID: 677171

i just bought an acer laptop (used) when i turn it on it
goes through memory check then locks up so i can't
even get to dos. i can get into the bios ok and it shows
win95 is the o/s but i cannot get past memory check to
run anything any help would be appreciated.
