When I try to install VDMSound 2.0.4, I get the
following error:

"Error 1904. Module C:\Program
Files\VDMSound\DiskWriter.dll failed to register.
HRESULT -2147024770. Contact your support personnel."

The progress dialog behind this window
says "Registering modules."

The machine is running Windows 2000 Professional SP2.
All I can find seems to indicate that error 1904 might
be caused by DiskWriter.dll needing another component
that is not registered or available on this machine
for some reason.

0x8007007E (-2147024770) - "The specified module could not
    be found."

Does Microsoft Installer let you ignore the error and
continue? Is this the only DLL you are getting errors
with? Are you logged in as Administrator when installing
the software? Have you installed the latest "Critical
    updates" from windowsupdate.com?

I am getting this problem too on Win2K Pro SP2.

Vlad, in response to your questions:

    1. Yes one can ignore the error and continue but...
    2. ...it happens with most of the other DLLs too.
    3. Yes I am logged in as administrator.
    4. Yes I have installed the latest "Critical updates".

I'm the original nobody, and I get the same results as the
    previous nobody.

I think SF lost my reply.
Anyway, try in the follwoing order:

    Install VDMSound; ignore any errors.

    (1)
    Download DEPENDS from:
    http://www.ece.mcgill.ca/~vromas/vdmsound/files/redist/DEPEN
    DS.zip
Unzip in any directory and run from there; in
DEPENDS "Open" one of the problematic .dll's (e.g.
DiskWriter.dll). Look for any warning or error signs
(usually red or yellow icons next to dll files or function
    names)

    (2)
If everything looks fine in DEPENDS, open a command prompt
(make sure you're logged in as Admin) and type the
    following:

    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\VDMSound\DiskWriter.dll"

(do not forget the double-quotes! I assume VDMSound was
installed in C:\Program Files\..., substitue appropriate
    values)

    (3)
If regsvr32 did not give an error and said "Registration
successful" then probably your Microsoft Installer is
busted (happened a few times on XP). Download and install
    Microsoft Installer from:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?
    URL=/code/sample.asp?url=/msdn-
    files/027/001/456/msdncompositedoc.xml

Once the new Microsoft Installer was installed then try to
repair/reinstall VDMSound, and hopefully the errors will be
    gone.

Original nobody here: All the DLLs except for TipOfDay and
VDMConfig fail. Depends shows no problems. regsvr32 fails
for each of those DLLs with this error:
"DllRegisterServer in [file] failed. Return code was
    0x8007007e"

Start up Regedit.exe (from any DOS box or from Start
menu/Run) and search in your registry for "VDMSound"
(without the double-quotes). Did you find anything? Did
you find it near stuff like "ThreadingModel"
    and "InProcServer32"?

It would also be nice to know what version of Windows you
have (e.g. Win2k SP2) and what kind of fancy stuff you
might have installed on your system (antivirus, any COM
stuff from Microsoft, registry monitoring programs, etc.)

This problem seems to only affect a very small part of
VDMSound users (<5%?), so I suspect it's a piece of
software installed on your machine that is causing all the
    fuss.

Made an error at set up with Morse Code Gold. When
WindowsXP asked how I wished to run the program I hit the
incorrect VDMS file to run with.
How do I correct this? Each time that I uninstall the
programs the memory keeps brining up the incorrect file.

mousse: try Windows Explorer's Tools menu, Folder Options,
File Types. Is this what you meant to ask for?

Thank you for answering. However the problem is that I
wanted to be sure that I had set up the Morse Code Gold
    to "Run With" VDMSound.
That seems to be set up, but I guess that I did not
know what I was expecting. The Morse Code is a Dos based
program that needs to use the speakers so that you can hear
the "dots and dashed" for morse code sending receiving.
The VDM runs off the hard drive?? since I do not hear
any sound from the speakers at all. I am able to
distinguish the dots and dashes but they are not new loud.
My sound card is intergrated with my Dell computer
    software.
Is there a way to get more boost to the sound and the
    dots and dashes?
Thank you for your assistance. (I wish that I was
better at the workings of the computer...but will manage
    whatever your suggest)

Have you used the Beta VDMSound LaunchPad? Can you please
be more specific as to what you were doing to set up Morse
Code Gold when you "hit the incorrect VDMS file to run"?
To increase the volume simply turn up the volume in the
standard "Volume Control"/Mixer (should have a speaker icon
    in your task-bar).

Original nobody (now with a SF account) - the machine that
had the installation problems which started this item has
been wiped & reinstalled as WinXP Professional. No more
    problems.

If you get errors during installation then follow this procedure:

    1) Install in "C:\Program Files\VDMSound"
    2) Ignore the registration errors
    3) Open the attached file
    4) Double-click on the .reg file inside to be merged into the
registry (this performs the equivalent of what failed during
    installation).

    Cheers,
    V.
