5 [G2] Server / User Timezone Offset - ID: 499086
Last Update: Settings changed ( ckdake )

The ability to add or subtract hours so that it matchs
the timezone wanted and not the timezone of the server.

Example.
My server is in Canada but my users are in Europe. I
want all the Gallery times to have 8 hours added onto
them. All thats needed is a option in the admin pages
to allow this.

Thanks.

"to add or subtract hours" or "adjust dates and times to match their
location" is certainly not what anyone should want. No need to change the
date/time values themselves; they should simply be correct. You want the
date/time *representation* to reflect your local timezone.

Having the ability, as a gallery user, to set your local timezone could
also be a nifty way of solving bug #1570759: If Gallery would interpret the
date/time from the Exif header as referring to the timezone that was in
effect for the user at the time of import, the user can make sure that the
resulting datetime values are actually correct (right now the assumption is
that the timezone of the imported photographs always matches that of the
server, which is often wrong)

The biggest issue here isn't so much that you can't adjust the default
timezone for G2, but rather that users have no way to adjust times to match
their timezone. The global setting isn't a major issue as long as users
have the ability to adjust dates and times to match their location.

@Global setting:
In config.php, use putenv('TZ=PST8PDT');

Both a per-user and a global time offset setting would be
extremely handy. I would prefer a method like what SMF
(Simple Machines Forum) has, where you can enter a value
specifying the difference between your timezone and the
server timezone (admin) and the difference between the
default forum time and your timezone (user). Selecting an
actual timezone is more of a pain than its worth in my opinion.

We are changing the priority, subject line, or other aspects of
this request in order to assist with the management of the
Feature Requests queue. This does not necessarily have anything
to do with how likely this feature is to be implemented.

Thank you,

Planning on adding a per-user setting... maybe to v1.3.5.
