Extrema Localization problem - ID: 478859

I am having some difficulty using the second step of
this program. The two scrollbars for both pictures
(the left and right hand image) never become enabled.
I have tried using the two hand pictures supplied with
the program and the same settings that are in the
screen shots, but no success.
I am running it on a win2k machine, jai 1.1.1 and java
version 1.3
