5 Cannot Open *tex file by clicking on it. - ID: 2894395
Last Update: Comment added ( u-jean )

I have been texniccenter user for several years, and I owe a lot to it as I
finished writing my dissertation on it. But I am having a trouble with it
(or maybe it is not texniccenter problem) as I installed miktex 2.8 and
texniccenter on new school provided computer. With miktex 2.8, now I see
that they have added texworks editor as a part of their distribution.

My problem is that I cannot open *.tex file with texniccenter directly by
clicking on it. Yes, it opens when I first open texniccenter and then use
`open' on the menu bar. But cannot directly do so by clicking on the icon
of *.tex - it says `*.tex is not a valid win32 application'. Is there
anyway that I can open by clicking on the icon rather than open the
texniccenter program first and use the menu bar?

What I have noticed from comparing with my old computer is that
Old:
1. Texniccenter icon (TXC) is recognized when I try to oepn a *.tex file
with `open with' - after righ clicking on *.tex
2. The icon of *.tex file was texiccenter one and says latex document.

New:
1. Texniccenter does not show any icon (as if it is not an unrecognizable
progem) when I try to open a *tex file with `open with' - after right
clicking on *.tex
2. The icon of *.tex file is now TexWorks and syas Tex document.

These are only two major differences that I have noticed so far. But not
being able to open directly by clicking on the icon of *.tex is just
bothering a lot! Please let me know if there is any way I can resolve this
matter.

Press shift and rightclick on the texfile, choose open with, choose
texniccenter, or browse to the texniccenter executable, clicl the box
"remember the application" and thats it. From now on doubleclicking a tex
file will open it with texniccenter
