5 "External Changes" and "Save entries in original order" - ID: 2892213
Last Update: Comment added ( mortenalver )

Hi there.

The "external changes" feature does not work well when you have enabled
the option "Save entries in their original order".

(Tested with JabRef 2.6b2.)

Problem A: Mixed up order

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a bib file with JabRef.
2. Add an entry somewhere in the middle of the bib file with an external
editor and save.
3. Accept the recognized changes within JabRef.
4. Save with JabRef.

Actual result: The new entry was moved to the end of the bib file.
Expected result: It should stay, where it was added.

Problem B: Not recognized changes

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a bib file with JabRef.
2. Edit the bib file with an external editor and move an entry to a
different position within the bib file. Then Save.

Actual result: The change is not recognized within JabRef and saving within
JabRef reverts the changes of the external editor.
Expected result: The new order imposed by the external editor should be
recognized and kept.

Regards
Jan

I see what you mean. The cause of this is that the function comparing
different database versions doesn't take order into account in any way.
This scenario has simply not been considered. I'll have to think about
whether and how it can be solved.
