Compilation fixes under VC9 + static linking - ID: 2841006

I had some little problems with the lib (2 RC1 - 20080909). It was mostly
conversions the compiler wanted to be explicit. I also included the same
kind of patch "pompei2" submitted (1999591).
So, here are the modified files.
