5 Allow cross-platform native GUI - ID: 2811050
Last Update: Comment added ( msavignano )

I am using the portable variety where the jar is on an internet drive
(Teamdrive) which I can access from all my computers. One of them is a Mac,
the other two are PCs. In the GUI settings I can chose Mac OS X style or
Windows style, depending on which platform I run Jpasswords. But it's lost
whenever I run it on the other platform.

I would like to use Mac OS X style on my Mac, and Windows style on my PCs,
so a setting like "Native OS" would be nice that would switch to either of
the OS specific style depending on where the application runs.

I have implemented a solution that allows to opt style variables
"Cross-Platform" and "Native" in the same list as the concrete styles.
Works find here. Cross fingers that MacOS VM brings up the LAF style for
native default that you are looking for.

I will send you a test version as soon as a stable development release is
available.

Yes, I'd like to join the testing team.

My guess was that it's easy to implement "native", if Mac OS X style and
Windows style had the same enum value for example. There is obviously
already an OS check in JPasswords, as it lets me select the style of the
current OS only in the options. The same logic would just apply to the
"native" setting.

The current "Portable" solution prefers cross-platform styles in the first
rank. I am aware this isn't the 100% solution. I will consider if your
suggestion is doable or if some other resolution can be found.

The only current solution you can think of is working with local INI
files, which comes to switching over to "Normal" running mode
(non-portable). Whether this is good depends on how much you are working
with different files or other central information.

Thanks for the idea, anyway. If you like I will take you into the testing
team and you will be able to test any early release candidates. Is that in
your interest?
