So I have Pidgin hide new incomming convo windows by default. I used to
have the Pidgin icon blink on new messages so I knew someone wanted to
chat. This way, I view new messages when I want to, not just have them pop
up in front of my face.
But now, if I leave the Pidgin icon disabled and use the indicator-applet,
it pops up the content of a new message I get. I don't like this – it's a
privacy issue. But, if I turn off the libnotify plugin option to notify on
new message, then I don't know if someone is trying to chat with me.
Ideally, I'd like to see it just have a libnotify popup that tells me I got
a new message and who from, and without the message content, but only if
there is not a conversation window open already. Otherwise, I use the
notify plugin that turns a windows status to urgent so it blinks orange on
the window list.
