I understand that SF.net goes to great lengths to ensure the security of
its systems and user projects. As a result, project website management is
not as straightforward as other situations users have encountered.
Considering this unfamiliarity with the process, the documentation (in my
opinion, after bouncing around on Site Documentation for an hour) could be
better.
Specifically:
Users seeking how to manage their project web content via SFTP start here:
http://apps.sourceforge.net/trac/sitedocs/wiki/Project%20web
This leads the user to the File Management Service page:
http://apps.sourceforge.net/trac/sitedocs/wiki/File%20management%20service
Clicking on SFTP leads to:
http://apps.sourceforge.net/trac/sitedocs/wiki/SFTP
where there is absolutely NO information about managing project web content
via SFTP (In my case, an SFTP GUI), only about managing file releases.
This is confusing and frustrating for those not accustomed to SF.net's
methods.
Please make it clear ON THIS PAGE that in order to use SFTP to manage a
project, one must connect to web.sourceforge.net, AND that the "username"
must be USERNAME,PROJECTNAME, and that if PROJECTNAME is not included,
access to the project's web files will be denied.
Thank you for an otherwise fantastic service.
