5 too many windows - ID: 2564759
Last Update: Comment added ( nobody )

When I close an aquaterm window, that graph is not gone but hidden. Even
when the originating program is long gone. I have a long-running aquaterm
session that has lasted several gnuplot and octave sessions. I wanted to
cascade the 4 plots, so I went to the menu and chose Window Cascade.
Imagine my surprise when dozens of plots appeared out of nowhere.

These plots are probably taking up memory, especially if they're bitmap
plots (e.g. imagesc in octave, which I frequently do). They make the
cascade/tile options worthless.

They may also explain the odd behavior I've noticed for some time, that
aquaterm always believes that something is connected to it and refuses to
quit without user confirmation, even if all gnuplot, octave, etc. sessions
are closed.

Another effect is that from time to time (sometimes sooner sometimes later,
depending on what I'm doing) I will need to quit Aquaterm because it has
too many processes and my system freaks out (it's a slow growing fork
bomb).

More info: this happens regardless of the setting of Preferences => Window
Closing => [ ] Client Controlled

[Comment repeated, but this time I'm logged in.]

The original post doesn't specify the OS version, but I found the same
problem under OS X 10.5.6.

To replicate:
[1] Create several windows (for example, using Gnuplot)
[2] Close the windows ala [Command]-W
[3] Select Window => Cascade
The closed windows will spring back to life.
