allow . to specify zone for CNAME and MX records - ID: 2365918

When adding a zone, it's often useful to have subdomains such as www and
ftp automatically default to the zone itself, eg adding example.com would
automatically add example.com CNAME www.example.com.
The attached patch accomplishes this.
